Infrared Sauna ETL Fire Seal
INTERTEK’S ETL SEMKO STANDARDS FOR THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA:
A product bearing the ETL Listed Mark is determined to have met the minimum requirements of prescribed product safety standards.
The ETL Listed Mark is the legal equivalent of the UL Listed and CSA Listed Marks throughout the United States and Canada.
For over 100 years, dating back to Thomas Edison’s Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL), “ETL” has been a leader in electrical safety compliance.
Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL) was founded in 1896 by Thomas Edison, and is one of the oldest product safety testing laboratories in the world. Certification by ETL and ETL-C assures that all infrared sauna models have been tested to meet both US and Canadian safety and performance standards.
Any far infrared sauna manufactured and sold in the U.S.A. & Canada must meet these ETL approval guidelines of fire safety. What this means is simply that the heating elements used in far infrared saunas must pass that fire safety rating to earn the ETL seal of approval. In order to do that, mostly all models of infrared saunas use a fire retardant material or cloth that removes the fire hazard from the infrared sauna heaters.
Currently, there is no conclusive studies showing any harmful effects of prolonged exposure these fire retardant materials sustain from prolonged heat exposure. But what you might find interesting is the fact that some studies are showing these materials and cloths are “charcoaling” and even crumbling or “disintegrating” when touched. While no studies prove these particles are harmful to be exposed to, we feel it’s just best if you didn’t have to inhale them in the first place. Exposure to a possible toxic material inside your infrared sauna cabin shouldn’t be a concern to you while detoxifying in the first place.
The design of infrared sauna heaters from East Coast Saunas, utilizes a wooden grid back support that permits the ETL seal of approval without the use of any fire retardant materials encasing the carbon heaters. Moreover, there has been a few questions about the fire retardant materials and this wooden grate design as far as blocking the far infrared waves that you want your body to be absorbing. The fact is the infrared waves will penetrate this easily without any concerns.
If you consider the use of infrared heat signatures the military or even police agencies use to spy through concrete walls, you will notice that those heat signatures are visible through almost any material. You’ve probably even seen the cop shows that utilize this technology and seen on T.V. how they spot possible suspects through walls during clandestine operations. Rest assured, your far infrared sauna heat waves are not hindered by any wooden grates or fire retardant materials. You’re body is absolutely receiving the full micron wave lengths of the far infrared completely, and unobstructed.
The one design that is currently available on the market which includes this built in back support and “grid type” wooden grate construction is made by East & West Coast Saunas. They are currently the only manufacturer that offers their infrared sauna models with this unique design utilizing the wooden grid back support in order to provide an ETL approval without the use of fire retardant materials.
East & West Coast Saunas makes all their models of far infrared saunas with this type of engineering design. This is so no one should ever be concerned with the possible fact that other sauna companies require the addition of possibly toxic flame-retardant materials to encase their infrared sauna heaters. Meanwhile, you could eventually be inhaling those particles while using your infrared sauna.
Naturally, this is a point of interest that is probably being dismissed as having no evidence or proof for your concern… but the bottom line is why would you even consider being exposed to this?
There has even been studies based upon the toxic chemicals in such fire-retardant materials which you can read further here:
